i hate lady gaga for so many reasons.
but i think her whole “jo calderone” thing is the worst one.
she uses people’s actual identities as this entertaining costume to gain more attention for herself. if she actually gave a shit about trans* people or even the queer community in general, she wouldn’t write shitty fucking songs like “born this way” and she wouldn’t say “oh, here we go again” when someone asks her a question criticizing the way she addresses the queer community.
if she actually gave a shit about trans* people you would hear her talking about them, not just dressing up. it’s all fucking theatrical, this is the same thing as when she used a wheelchair onstage. this is the same thing as when, during a photo shoot that was “asian inspired”, she squinted her eyes in every single picture. it’s the same shit. she’s a fucking commodity and this is the cheapest possible way to make oppressed minorities feel like “oh, she cares!”

not to mention that using tape to bind is a terrible idea and it’s bad for you.

I dare you guys to read the above post and tell me you did not laugh. Not only is this misinformed person taking Gaga’s “Here we go again” quote out of context, they’re also saying she purposely squinted her eyes during her V Magazine Asia photoshoot. I don’t see her squinting her eyes in any of these photos. Do you? There is virtually ZERO visibility for trans men and women in the mainstream world, and here you have the biggest superstar on planet Earth saying, “Hey, trans people exist, too.” When Gaga dressed as Jo Calderone, she was not Gaga, she was Jo 100%. She did not break character or further the illusion that trans people are just men and women who dress differently. Her entire performance of Jo Calderone was nothing but a very clever way of showing her support. How does “If she cared about trans people, she wouldn’t make songs like ‘Born This Way’” makes sense? ‘Born This Way’ was the first song in the history of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart to include the word “transgender”. Lady Gaga is the only pop artist currently in the media’s spotlight that doesn’t care if people dislike her for believing in what is, arguably, right. She has spoken out against transphobia several times and it is something she does not stand for. It sounds like YOU are the one who doesn’t care about trans people because you’re sitting here condemning the one person who does everything in her power to help her fans and the LGBT community. What are you doing for the trans community? Why waste your time on someone you don’t care about? Shouldn’t you be out rallying for the trans community since you care about the trans community oh-so much?
Oh, and not to mention, she’s not saying you should bind with tape. The tape is used to enforce the fact that trans men have to harm their own bodies and go through immense amounts of discomfort just so they can fit into a world that tells them they are freaks. Maybe if you weren’t so close-minded, you’d see that.
